How much does it cost to adopt?
Adoption fees vary depending on the dog's age, medical care, and individual needs. Every adoption fee helps offset a portion of the veterinary care, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay/neuter costs.
Simply complete our online adoption application. Once we've reviewed your application, we'll contact you to discuss the dog you're interested in and determine whether it's the right fit for both your family and the dog.
How do I apply to adopt?
How do you choose the right home?
Our priority is finding the best possible match - not the quickest one. We consider each dogs personality, energy level, medical needs, and history, along with your lifestyle, experience, and home environment.
Do you adopt outside Durham Region?
Yes. While we're based in Scugog Township, we consider applications from surrounding communities. Adoption locations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure the best outcome for each dog.
What if the adoption isn't the right fit?
Our commitment to every dog doesn't end at adoption. If circumstances change, we ask that you contact Homeward Bound K9 Rescue before considering any other option. We'll work with you to determine the safest and most appropriate next step for the dog.
Are your dogs spayed or neutered before adoption?
Whenever possible, dogs are spayed or neutered before adoption. If a puppy or medical condition prevents surgery before adoption, we'll discuss the next steps with you and include any applicable requirements in the adoption agreement.
Can I meet the dog before adopting?
Absolutely! Once we've reviewed your application and believe the dog may be a good match, we'll arrange a meet-and-greet. We want both you and the dog to feel comfortable and confident before moving forward with the adoption.
